Adapted from a Novel? Nope. The concept began in May 2019 when an anonymous user posted an unsettling, empty image of yellow wallpaper, dingy carpet, and fluorescent lights on the imageboard 4chan. Another user replied, suggesting that you could end up in this place by "noclip[ping]" out of reality in the wrong areas—a video game term for glitching through a solid wall. Here’s a cool video that explains more.
